In this free website you will find a wealth of useful information and an abundance of helpful tips, along with some history of traditional archery, competitions and or bow hunting. This site is dedicated to the memory of my Dad, Deuaine Lake. He was an avid bow hunter and devoted long time member of the Michigan Bow Hunters association, serving as County rep., District 7 Governer,Vice-president and President. He was instrumental in the founding of the Michigan Bow Hunters organization. He was also inducted into Michigan Bow Hunters Hall of Fame and received a Bow Hunter of the year award. Along with his wife Beulah, who was also dedicated to the sport of bow hunting, they were members of the local Bend of the River conservation Club. Mom and Dad did more than their share of work for the Department of Natural Resources ( DNR) helping to feed the starving deer to help pull them through the harsh winters. They pledged as Americans to save and defend from waste, natural resources of their country it’s air, soil and minerals, it’s forests, waters and wildlife (source MBH pledge). Dad lived by the teachings of his good friend the late Fred Bear, notably one of the most outstanding archers of the world, and quoted Fred’s philosophy frequently, “We must teach more respect and appreciation for the outdoors, more respect and understanding for fair chase rules, and we must encourage the proper use of gun or archery equipment so that kills will be done as humanely as possible”.

In 1956, when I was five years old, Dad enthusiastically encouraged my growing interest in archery, and I competed in tournaments a few years later. At around 9 years of age, competing with archers ranging in ages up to 18 years old, and I proved myself to be a very good marksman even at that young age by placing in the top rankings in the competition.

I have carried on this tradition with both of my sons, Brody and Brent, who are likewise carrying on the true values of bow hunting with their very own children. Over the years I have learned through other bow hunters and also on my own valuable bow hunting skills that I will share with you as a friend. I will continue to collect and update in depth new archery information on this site.
